Departing from Funchal, we head to the charming village of Ribeira Brava for a brief sightseeing stop. Then, the journey continues uphill towards Paúl da Serra, a breathtaking plateau at the island’s center, offering spectacular panoramic views. Along the way, we pass through the picturesque villages of Ponta do Sol and Canhas via off-road tracks.
There’s an optional short levada walk (about 20 minutes) to immerse yourself in Madeira’s unique nature. At Paúl da Serra, situated at 1,500 meters altitude, we begin our descent through Fanal—a UNESCO World Heritage laurel forest – until reaching a stunning viewpoint at Ribeira da Janela.
In Porto Moniz, admire the famous natural volcanic swimming pools filled with crystal-clear seawater, where we pause for lunch. Refreshed, we continue along the coast visiting the villages of Seixal and São Vicente.
Our day ends at 1,007 meters altitude at Encumeada viewpoint, nestled between valleys with magnificent views over Ribeira Brava to the south and São Vicente to the north. From here, we return to Funchal, completing an unforgettable off-road adventure.
